    Maria Thrash – Director of Swimming Performance / Head Swimming Coach

    Maria is the Head Coach of Dynamo Masters & Triathletes and also acts as the Head Swimming Coach for DMS. She has over 36 years experience, coaching and competing, in the sport of swimming. Maria has been a multisport athlete and is well-versed in the intricacies of training for multisport Open Water Swimming and the associated stroke mechanics unique to multisport swimming. She offers individual/group swimming technique lessons.

    Prior to returning to Dynamo, she served as an Assistant Coach with Georgia Tech, working primarily with the Tech sprinters and helping guide athletes to several school records and NCAA Championship time standards. Before coming to Tech, Thrash was Head Senior Coach at Swim Atlanta from 2002-03, responsible for over 275 athletes. Thrash coached one male and one female state record holder and tutored the male high school Swimmer of the Year. The team included six Scholastic All-Americans and two high school All-Americans.

    She was SA’s Head Age Group Coach from 1988-2002, garnering Georgia Coach of the Year honors in 1997 and 1998. There she was responsible for the development of 240 athletes, recruited fifty new swimmers each year and managed the Roswell facility, including coordination of meets and practices. During her stint, Thrash coached one Head Age Group record holder.

    Before Swim Atlanta, Thrash was an assistant coach at the Dynamo Swim Club. There she managed sixty athletes and developed and coordinated the spring stroke clinics with over 150 athletes.

    As an athlete, Thrash was a two-time captain at Clemson University where she lettered from 1979-83. She helped the Tigers to a 19-15 dual meet record and an 8-7 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Thrash graduated from Clemson University in May 1984, with a bachelor’s degree in administrative management.
