Giving Thanks – Continuing the Race Campaign

GREENies –

We’re almost a full 2 weeks into November.  Fall is in full here in Georgia.  Falling leaves, cold north air, the forecasted wintery mix all signs that is indeed November.  I like to view this month as a month of thanks.  Race season is winding down, and we can really begin to reflect on the year that has passed.  And in that reflection, we always can find thanks and gratitude for the people and experiences passed.

Along these lines I want to bring attention to the Continuing the Race Capital Campaign that is currently underway at Dynamo Swimming Club.  It coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Club; 50 years marked by more peaks than valleys, but most of all marked and defined by a sense of community.  When I look at Dynamo and it’s different service areas – age group swimming, swim school, masters and multisport, – the underlying theme is the community each provides to its constituents.  Embedded in that community are the cornerstones of Dynamo: excellence, education, outreach, health and a mutual respect for all.

As you are reflecting on the year that is winding down, I hope you look at your own place within the Dynamo community and when you do, you are proud of and grateful for the friends and teammates who compose our family.  Whether that leads to a gift to the Campaign lies within your own means and sense of need.  On behalf of the the Dynamo Multisport coaching staff and Dynamo […]

Happy 5th Birthday & Mahalo

Dynamo_Lava
Happy 5th Birthday, GREEN! Each year I come out of Kona week, exhausted from the wonderful roller-coaster ride that event is but more importantly rejuvenated for the final races of the season, new beginnings and the exciting prospects of a new year ahead. It’s only fitting that our birthday comes on the heels of Kona. After all, if you look into the DNA of our origins it comes from a passion that was ignited into action after my first trip there in 2006. Throw in some circumstances that now don’t seem as coincidental as they did then, our family has grown into something that I once dreamed it might be when the vision for Dynamo Multisport started percolating back then.

Haley and I sat in the pro meeting prior to the race last Thursday, admittedly more like fans than as an athlete and a coach. Surreal? Considering that 4 years prior she, Betty and I were coming to the Island on our first visit as a team, it absolutely was. As Betty, Erin and John were making their way back to Kailua pier at the end of the age group swim on race day, Haley exited the water of the professional race as the leading athlete. My heart swelled with pride and raced with excitement just as it had when she led the female amateur race for the first time in 2009. I had these same emotions coursing through me a month earlier, as I watched the bravery of two brothers – Bent and Kyle Pease – take on a monumental day up in Wisconsin. As […]

The Latest Addition to the DMS Staff

DynaNation:

It’s with great pleasure that Maria, Shanks and I introduce the newest addition to the Dynamo Multisport coaching staff, Brent Pease. Brent has been in the Dynamo family since 2009, first as an athlete in our masters swim and cycling classes, then as a Coached Athlete where Maria and I have been working closely with him for the last three years. His passion for triathlon and coaching has been clearly evident in that time. Most recently, Brent has made the transition to a full-time industry professional, joining the All3Sports staff as their Community Growth & Outreach Manager.

BPease_CoachingGrowth in our staff comes with very high standards and a level of integrity that we take very seriously. Brent’s addition takes place within those standards. He is a full-time industry professional, but more importantly, he is a person of experience, character, respect and compassion. His addition allows us to seamlessly preserve our culture which continues to be the priority for how we evaluate strategic decisions. I am proud to say that we continue to have the best coaching staff in both Atlanta metro and the Southeast, and one which we I believe we can measure against any other, anywhere, any time.

For more information about Brent, please visit his profile page here. Brent can be reached directly via email if you would like to wish him well.

Thank you all for who you are and how you represent each other and the ‘We’ in Dynamo Multisport. Please welcome Brent Pease to the Dynamo Multisport family in this new capacity.

The Next Chapter

We’ve had a lot of special milestones the past two weeks as a team – 5 athletes in Kona, our 4th Birthday, another Kona podium.  Each of these milestones should be celebrated because together, as a team, they are possible.  It’s with great joy and pride that we celebrate another milestone.  Our own Haley Chura will be racing as a professional triathlete moving forward.

Haley has grown up as a triathlete with many of you.  Betty Janelle took her under her wing early on as Haley was learning the sport, acting much as a triathlon “mother”.  The Lane 8 girls – Shelly, Beth, Dori – have kept swimming fun for her.  Maria Thrash has been critical in helping Haley maintain that swim weapon she wields and coaching her when Coach can’t find the right words.  Michael Howell has been a long-time running partner pushing her and helping develop that discipline into a strength.  Kathryn Honderd has been a steady, predictable roommate at camps and the races.  Allen Heaton has been the steady hand to get her on her bike safely and swiftly.  Drew Marlar, Micki Donegan, Linda Linda Varney Anderson, Albert Bodine, Erik Johnson, Brent Pease and Michael Kidd have kept training fun and inspiring.  Michael Dukes, Steve Barth and her work colleagues at Bennett Thrasher, including GREENies Brian Hamm and Lyn Reagan, have been encouraging of her sporting pursuits.  Morgan Clark and the All3 Team, Ryan Dolan and the TYR Team as well as Chance Regina at Blue, Matt Booth at Mizuno, and professional triathlete

Happy 4th Birthday & Mahalo

It seems fitting that Dynamo Multisport was born during an Olympic year.  The Olympic year is always focused, determined, stressful, fervent and wildly fun.  These same adjectives could easily describe our GREEN family.  As I wrote to our own Betty and Ernie Janelle last week, we definitely put the “FUN” in dysfunction, something that all families deal with in their own idiosyncratically unique way.  When I think back on these four years, I look at the evolution of our program from humble beginnings in the Chamblee weight room and 12 athletes on the roster to kick off 2009 to the 5 athletes we had at the Ironman World Championships last Saturday.  More defining about those four years, though, was the personification of our community that has developed in that time last Saturday:  the 30 strong support team lining the sea wall in an armada block of green, dotting the streets of Ali’i Drive and pedaling the Queen K on the most sacred grounds of our sport.  To say we’ve come a long way would be an understatement.

I wrote in a blog last week that what defines Dynamo Multisport now isn’t what has changed in those four years; it’s what has remained the same.  Our culture is fiercly in tact.  We are defined by not what we do in the races but the people who compose the ‘We’ in Dynamo.  We are caring, passionate, welcoming, diverse, respectful athletes who have congregated around an idea of community in the shared passion of multisport.  This hasn’t changed.  And as we look towards […]
